Thoughts Become Things

The building at 305 N. Main Street in Tarboro has been through many changes in its lifetime. It has seen good times and bad times in Tarboro. It was home to the Belk-Tyler Department Store in the 1930s. It then became the "old" Marrow-Pitt Hardware Store. When Hurricane Floyd came to Tarboro, floodwaters entered the building and damaged the floor on the ground level. Then the building sat empty...

When we came along, it was perfect for our needs. The second floor alone was big enough to accomodate our internet wholesale business (www.JACsWholesale.com). The conveyor belt allowed for easy moving of shipments in and out. Tons of storage space and a third floor that could someday be transformed into a sleek but funky metro-style loft apartment. Given that we were blessed with vivid imaginations and boundless hope, we could overlook the sad condition, and see the building as having a terrific location with "loads of potential".

Here's THE PLAN...
The Unusual Shoppe will pay for the renovations to the building. We've prepared a nice 1600 sq. ft space to start with and loaded it FULL of interesting (and unusual) items. Your art, collectibles and antiques brought to us for consignment sales along with our continuous addition of merchandise will expand the inventory until it fills the entire first floor. Initial profits from sales will repair floors, fix the Main Street facade, and get the HVAC system up to par.

As the business grows and thrives, we'll first take care of the building and then take care of the town. We plan to sponsor art, cultural and educational events that will draw visitors to our town and earmark a percentage of all profits to go toward improving the quality of life in and around Tarboro.

"You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one.
I hope some day you'll join us,
and the world can be as one."

WANT TO HELP?
Donations of saleable goods, building materials, your physical labor and MONEY for improvements are always welcomed and sincerely appreciated.

PROGRESS UPDATE:
As of November, 2007, we've added an additional 800 sq ft of floorspace to The Unusual Shoppe. We've purchased approximately 6000 books from the Edgecombe County Library Book Sale. We helped to organize a Tarboro Downtown Business Group.
There's been a great show of community support. THANK YOU!
We all want to see Tarboro shine!

Be GRATEFUL!
